Alejandro Macías

Alejandro Macías was born and raised in Brownsville, Texas. He received a BA from the University of Texas at Brownsville in 2008, and an MFA in 2-D Studio Art from the University of Texas–Pan American in 2012. His body of work is informed by his Mexican American identity and the current socio-political climate; he addresses themes of immigration and ethnicity, which are set in contrast to his critical engagement with the assimilation and acculturation process often referred to as “Americanization.”

His work has been exhibited at the national and international level and included in permanent public collections. He is the recipient of several prestigious residencies, including at Centrum in Port Townsend, WA; Vermont Studio Center in Johnson, VT; The Studios at MASS MoCA in North Adams, MA; Chateau d’Orquevaux in Orquevaux, France, and most recently Wassaic Project (2022). He currently serves as an assistant professor at the University of Arizona School of Art.
